The World Council of Churches (WCC) is a global fellowship of more than 350 churches in 120 countries. The WCC and its member churches work and act together for justice, reconciliation, and unity, seeking a deeper understanding of one another, fostering broader dialogue, and building communities rooted in justice and peace.

The WCC’s Interreligious Dialogue and Cooperation initiative encourages dialogue and mutual understanding by highlighting existing and emerging interreligious practices. It represents churches and diverse religious communities that share examples and experiences of interfaith engagement, solidarity and cooperation. Starting from the grassroots, the initiative encompasses global efforts and presents a variety of interfaith stories that reflect the journey of life.

The initiative also draws attention to shared sacred sites, which have a long history of supporting the unspoken but tangible respect between different co-existing religions through festivals, pilgrimages and diverse religious practices. In addition to promoting understanding, the initiative underscores the vital role of religious communities and people of good will in promoting peace and cooperation in the public sphere.

Consistently, Current Dialogue, the World Council of Churches’ journal on interreligious dialogue, offers a platform for debate to those who want to build bridges across religious divides and to their partners of different faiths.
