The Academy of World Religions at Hamburg University is an interdisciplinary research center dedicated to religious and comparative religious studies from the perspectives of the humanities and social sciences, with a focus on religious, ideological, and cultural pluralism. Its research is interdisciplinary and internationally oriented. Particular emphasis is placed on processes of intra-religious, inter-religious, and religious-secular pluralization. In this context, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, and Alevism are given priority, but other religions, such as Hinduism, are also considered. Through historical and contemporary research, social challenges and problem areas are examined in order to contribute to practical benefits for coexistence in a multicultural society. The Academy of World Religions at Hamburg University is a joint organizational unit of the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Education, under the leadership of the Faculty of Humanities. With the establishment of the Department of Religions, the Academy was affiliated with the department as an institutional unit.
