The EFECW is an international organisation, founded in 1982, church-related and active in some twenty European countries. EFECW is a network of women from all Christian traditions. Its main objectives are to:
- Strengthen the women’s ecumenical network and work actively for inter-religious and inter-convictional dialogue to develop a deeper mutual understanding;
- Help women explore their common European identity;
- Promote initiatives for peace, justice and reconciliation;
- Commit to taking action to protect God’s creation;
- Undertake actions in favour of women’s rights, because they are human rights.
- Be a recognised voice for Christian women in religious and public life in Europe.
This happens through educational workshops, open and safe spaces for free and critical discussion, podcasts (Female Voices), meetings, conferences and publications about issues like: ecumenism and ecumenical sharing; interreligious and intercultural dialogue; social, political, economic, ethical and ecological formation; human rights; women’s empowerment/leadership; peace and reconciliation, participation in various campaigns, open letters, support and development of projects that meet the aims of the Forum.
EFECW is the bearer of women’s voices of spirituality, life experience and knowledge. An important resource centre for discussion and work on feminist theology, gender justice and women’s ́history. A catalyst for women’s empowerment and ecumenical and inter-religious intergenerational dialogue. All women, both at European and national level, work on a voluntary basis.
The Forum is a partner of other international or local organisations (Conference of European Churches, World Council of Churches, Interreligious Conference of European Women Theologians, European Society of Women in Theological Research, Fellowship of the Least Coin, White Ribbon Campaign, etc….)
